IMO: Do we need acronyms for official communication?

The usage of acronyms is not very recent or since the advent of the Internet age. We all know acronyms such as AM and PM and that, they have been used since the Roman era - and we continue to use them. However in the past few years, we have been noticing an increase of using acronyms in official communications; in the corporate world (words such as FYI, ASAP, IMO, BTW et. al.). I want to ask readers a question here: Are we setting the right example for the younger generation and is it fine to use acronyms in official communication? Are we not content in just restricting these acronyms to SMS (oh, yes this too is an acronym for Short message service) and to WhatsApp and other networking platforms? How much time would it take to write 'for your information' instead of FYI? Hope IMO to everyone means In my Opinion but could that not also mean "In memory of" to someone from the old generation (no offence but it could mean that too). Recently, I received a chat that state...

Innovative BI and Analytics to Help Start-ups Compete with Giants

Breakthrough innovation is what the start-ups are bringing to the table, focusing heavily on providing core BI and analytics. Given the cut-throat competition and the survival of the fittest environment, the IT industry is looking for more and more optimization in a business environment. Business Intelligence and Analytics in the past few years has been considered as the topmost priority for a CIO according to several surveys and reports. Though in the past we have been hearing of companies such as MAIA Intelligence, SAP, Teradata, SAS Institute, Oracle, Sybase etc who have been focusing heavily on this market, we are now seeing a lot of start-ups that have emerged in India, focusing only on BI and Analytics. As per reports from Gartner, the BI and analytics market has evolved gradually over the years and will continue to evolve in the coming few years. There are key trends that will shape up the business intelligence and analytics market. For one, the use of collaborative tools and so...

US Border Security Bill: Indian IT Lashes Out!

The Indian IT Industry has raised its concerns against the discriminatory nature of the $600 million US Border Security Bill . Would it affect Obama's India visit in November this year? There are millions of Indians working in the US on H1-B and L-1 visas. However things seem to get murkier for the Indian IT immigrants with the US Congress approving the Border Security Bill, just months before the US elections. What seems to be the pain point for the Indian IT Industry especially is that this bill has steeply increases the work visa fees mainly used by Indian IT firms. The hike in visa fees could actually cost Indian IT firms a whooping $250 million annually. The new fees may discourage some firms from hiring talent that Indian tech firms might need to innovate, expand and ultimately create more jobs. Nasscom has come out very strongly supporting the Indian IT industry and condemning this bill. Nasscom lashed out on the comments of the Senator Charles Schumer stating that th...

Creating an EPIC!

Brainchild behind India's first web browser EPIC, Hidden Reflex has within months created a uproar in the world wide web. If Karl Marx was to appear in Cyber era, his saying would have gone like this Workers of the Cyber World Unite! You have nothing to lose but the world wide web. The importance of Internet has grown manifold over the years with several new actions happening. Dataquest recently did a story on how Microsoft's Internet Explorer (IE) is losing its market share to Google Chrome, Apple Safari, and Mozilla Firefox. Now the competition gets more tougher with several new browsers making their appearance that too with really interesting add-ons. Start up companies are doing several activities in the mobile content and the Internet space, and STPI has encouraged small and start-up companies to use their infrastructure to build new and innovative applications. For example, Tachyon Technologies introduced their transliteration tool, Quillpad for mobile applic...
